Geologist

The Geological Survey of Belgium (GSB), Department of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) located in Brussels, is recruiting a young geologist (M/F) for a one year contract (legal working conditions: 38h/week). The research project is entitled “3D-model of the geological underground of Brussels and hydrogeological study of the aquifer of the Bruxelles Formation”.


The motivated, enthusiast and dynamic candidate must have a university degree (Master in Earth Sciences) and possess:

  • an experience in hydrogeology or un GIS and databank management;
  • strong scientific report writing skills;
  • academic grades and/or previous scientific publications;
  • a strong team spirit.

An experience or a formation in one or several domains listed below is an asset:

  • sedimentary environments;
  • Geophysical characterization (gamma-ray) and lithology of Tertiary rocks of Belgium;
  • field sampling and description of sedimentary series;
  • computer skills in GIS (ArcGis 9.x oriented) associated to geostatistics or 3D modules;
  • computer skills in database management (Access, Excel), in Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator;
  • a Master thesis or a working experience in hydrogeology

The knowledge of one of the national languages and English are required. The scientific reports must be written in both national languages.
The regular working place is in Brussels with working meetings at the ‘Institut Bruxellois pour la Gestion de l’Environnement’ (IBGE - Brussels) and the Aquale company (Fernelmont, Wallonia).

Interviews of selected candidates, based on their CV, are scheduled for the 20th February 2012. The contract must start the 1st of April 2012.
