Department head : Georges Pichot

  • Development of mathematical models to predict oceanographic processes. The models are important for the management of marine resources and the protection of the North Sea.
  • Collection of data, necessary for the continuous monitoring of the quality of the marine environment and the validation of models.
  • Management and coordination of the oceanographic research vessel Belgica. To offer a platform to Belgian research teams to obtain high quality research.
  • Observation of the North Sea from the air (Belgian North Sea Aerial Survey programme) and detection of polluters at sea.
  • Implementation of Belgian obligations in the framework of international conventions on protection of the marine environment.

The department is divided in two sections:

  • Section 15. Marine Ecosystem Management
