> Local transport

Most public transport in the Brussels-Capital Region is organized by the MIVB/STIB.

The network includes buses, trams and metro lines, which connect the eastern and western districts of the city.

Pre-metro lines (trams in the tunnels) complete the metro service. A great many metro lines also have above ground bus and tram connections.

Please find information about the location and the local transportation in Brussels on http://www.mivb.be (*).

For the local transportation plan, maps can be downloaded from http://www.mivb.be/netplan-plan-reseau.html?l=en (*). Maps of the network are also available free of charge from the information service at the metro stations. Additional information on ticket fares can be found on the MIVB website.

  • Metro: The RBINS is located at distance of a 10 minute walk from the station “Trône/Troon” of the underground 2 which surrounds the city centre and at a distance of a 15 minute walk from the station “Maalbeek/Maelbeek” of the undergrounds 1A and 1B.
  • Bus: Several bus lines serve the RBINS from the city centre (line 27, 34, 38, 80 and 95).
  • Train: The RBINS is located at a distance of a 5 minute walk from the railway station “Brussel–Luxemburg/Bruxelles–Luxembourg” (clearly the easiest and nearest station to the RBINS), and at a distance of a 15 minute walk from “Brussel–Schuman/Bruxelles–Schuman”.

It is not advised to come to the RBINS by car, since parking spaces are limited at the institute, and are also difficult to find in the streets nearby.
